The Musical Folklore Archives (MFA) of the Centre for Asia Minor Studies were founded in 1930 by musicologist and ethnographer Melpo Logothetis–Merlier (1890–1979). The MFAis the oldest research center dedicated to the study of traditional, Byzantine, and urban folk music in Greece and houses exceptionally valuable primary musicological material.
Sound Library
The MFA’s Sound Library contains rare, non–commercial recordings dating from 1930 onward, as well as extensive field recordings documenting the full range of Hellenic musical traditions.
Record Library
The Record Library includes a substantial collection of traditional, Byzantine, and folk music, comprising commercial records (78, 45, and 33 rpm) and CDs. A significant portion of this material has been digitized.
Manuscripts and Sheet Music
The manuscript collection includes important materials such as scholarly studies, transcriptions of recordings in Western staff notation, and manuscripts in Byzantine musical notation.
Instrument Collection
Although limited in size, the instrument collection contains rare and significant instruments important to the study of Greek organology.
